A few days ago, the release date of the Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi Sinha starrer Rowdy Rathore (RR) was brought forward from June 15 to June 1 after Aamir Khan postponed the release of his film, Talaash to November. And in the process to grab the empty slot, the filmmakers attained a special coup. Now the film releases a day before Sonakshi’s birthday.
But this isn’t a coincidence. Insiders insist that while the makers were rescheduling the dates, Sona’s birthday was on their minds too. “Business-wise, the weekend is a coveted one considering it comes right after the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL). But everyone knew it would become special for Sona,” says the insider.
“It makes me feel special considering the film comes a day before my birthday. It’s also the first big movie after the IPL. I am looking at it as an advance birthday present,” chuckles Sonakshi, who’s currently shooting for a Rowdy Rathore song in Mysore with Akshay.
A remake of the hit South Indian film Vikramarkudu, RR has been produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and UTV Motion Pictures. “Our movie comes just a day before her birthday and we hope it will do well and make it a great day for Sonakshi,” says Shikha Kapur, senior VP (marketing) of UTV Motion Pictures.
Ask Sonakshi about the comparisons between her desi looks in Dabangg (2010) and Rowdy Rathore, and she says: “Comparisons will always be there considering Dabangg is the only film I have done till date. But for me, the only similarity is that both my heroes have worn moustaches.” And is she doing heavy-duty action, like Akshay, in the film? “No, I don’t have much action to do, except a few stunts in the climax. Otherwise, I am the girl next door.”
